The Department of Microbial Ecology (DOME) is looking for a highly motivated Senior Scientist (m/f/d).

We strive to conduct excellent research in a motivating and intellectually stimulating environment. We are looking for a Senior Scientist (m/f/d) with strong experience in fluorescence microscopy including confocal and super-resolution microscopy.


The position is currently limited to 3 years, with the possibility of subsequent permanent employment.

Your tasks will be:

You will support the analysis of structure-function relationships in microbiomes from environmental and clinical samples in collaboration with DOME researchers using our state-of-the-art fluorescence imaging instruments, which include a Leica Stellaris 8 STED super-resolution confocal microscope, a Leica SP8 confocal microscope, a Leica Thunder epifluorescence microscope, a Leica LMD7000 microdissection system, and various epifluorescence microscopes.


Your responsibilities will include advising on study design and sample preparation, instrument operation and imaging of samples, and collaborative data evaluation including digital image analysis. In addition, you will adapt advanced applications in fluorescence microscopy, such as 2D/3D super-resolution microscopy and fluorescence lifetime microscopy, for applications on microbiome samples and actively contribute to the development and implementation of new fluorescence imaging methods at our department. You will be responsible for the instruments and will be in regular contact with the manufacturers, organize repairs, upgrades, new acquisitions and take advantage of further training offers from the companies on the equipment and application of the instruments. Finally, you will contribute to the writing of research proposals and manuscripts, organize and conduct training for department staff, help supervise students and participate in the department's teaching activities.
 

Your profile: 

  • PhD in Microbiology or another suitable field.
  • Several years of experience in fluorescence microscopy, including confocal laser scanning microscopy and digital imaging.
  • Thematically relevant publications in peer-reviewed international journals.
  • Willingness to acquire new methodological skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and in an international team.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.

 

What is an advantage:

  • Several years of post-doctoral experience.
  • Experience with laboratory techniques for sample preparation, fluorescence in situ hybridization, and other methods for fluorescent labeling of biological samples.
