The Centre for Translation Studies is seeking a University assistant (prae doc) in the field of Transcultural Communication with a focus on the use of the translation concept beyond the discipline of Translation studies (e.g. in medicine, cultural studies, Sociology, Organization Studies etc.) within the research team of Prof. Dr. Cornelia Zwischenberger. The employment of the concept of translation is investigated from a transdisciplinary/transcultural perspective.
The Centre for Translation Studies (ZTW) at the University of Vienna, Austria is one of 20 academic units (faculties and centres) of the University of Vienna. In addition to the area of teaching (transcultural communication, translation studies, translation and interpreting education in 14 languages, etc.), the Centre conducts research in several key research areas. Cutting-edge research is conducted by professors, habilitated staff members, predoctoral and postdoctoral researchers, senior lecturers and many more. More than 120 lecturers teach translation-related subjects to about 3,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students.
The employment duration is 4 years. Initially limited to 1.5 years, the employment relationship is automatically extended to 4 years if the employer does not terminate it within the first 12 months by submitting a declaration of non-extension.
Your future tasks:
Active participation in research, teaching and administration in the area being advertised:
- We expect the successful candidate to sign a doctoral thesis agreement within 12-18 months
- Involvement in project applications and the acquisition of third-party funding
- Involvement in the organisation of conferences, in research projects, and the preparation of publications and presentation
- Involvement in teaching and independent teaching as defined by the collective bargaining agreement
- Involvement in the supervision of student
- Involvement in administrative tasks

Minimum job requirements:
- Diploma/master’s degree in Translation Studies
- Research interest in online collaborative translation
- Knowledge of theories and methods of Translation Studies
- Excellent command of written and spoken German
- Excellent command of written and spoken English
- Excellent command of another language offered at the Centre for Translation Studies
- Very good IT user skills
- Teamwork skills
In addition the successful candidate should have the following qualifications:
- Teaching experience/experience with e-learning
- Knowledge of university processes and structures
- Basic experience in research and academic writing (publications in subject-relevant media)
- Experience abroad
