With 27 teaching subjects, one specialization and over 12,000 teacher training students, the University of Vienna is the largest teacher training institution in Austria. At the Center for Teacher Education (ZLB), we work to bundle and further develop the many initiatives to improve the quality of teacher education. Together with the faculties and centers involved in teacher training as well as the universities of teacher education within the framework of the North-East Association, future teachers are prepared for the changing needs of a modern school and enabled to help shape the school as a place of learning and living on the basis of scientific expertise. We are looking for a committed university assistant (praedoc) in the field of language teaching and learning research (SLLF) at the Department of Teacher Education.
The position is advertised for 4 years, whereby the employment relationship is initially limited to 1.5 years and is automatically extended to a total of 4 years, unless the employer submits a declaration of non-renewal after a maximum of 12 months. Admission to the doctoral school (DSE) will be sought.
Your personal sphere of influence:
In the field of language teaching and learning research (SLLF), we focus on the teaching, learning and use of language/s in the context of diversity. Our research focuses on three main areas: the subject in its emotional, motivational and empowering linguistic constitution, discourses on multilingualism and languages, and the professionalization of teachers for multilingual contexts.
Digitalization is a perspective that emerges in all three focal points. Our research goes beyond institutional teaching-learning contexts by working on the link between language use and language learning. Teacher education and training is an important reference point for our research.
Your future tasks:
You actively participate in research, teaching & administration, which means:
- You will be involved in research projects and scientific studies in the field of learning less taught languages, in particular minoritized languages.
- You will work on and complete your dissertation on a topic in the field.
- You will actively participate in the acquisition of third-party funding.
- You will teach courses independently in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement.
- You will take on administrative tasks in research and teaching (organization of colloquia, lectures, etc.).
This is part of your personality:
- A completed Master's/Diploma degree in teaching (philology), linguistics or a comparable degree (in connection with language). Specialization in a linguistic field is also possible with a corresponding degree.
- Basic experience in academic writing and with research methods
- Didactic competences / experience with e-learning
- You should be a team player with high social skills
- You have the following language skills: German, English, at least one other language (preferably a less-learned language) desirable
