The Faculty of Psychology consists of the Dean’s office and the studies service center, as well as Department of Cognition, Emotion, and Methods in Psychology, Department of Occupational, Economic and Social Psychology, the Department of Applied Psychology: Work, Education and Economy, Department of Developmental and Educational Psychology the Outpatient Unit for Research, Teaching and Practice. Currently, nearly 3,500 students of Psychology are enrolled in Bachelor's, Master's and PhD programmes, attending nearly 200 courses per semester, which are taught and supervised by 220 teachers.

The position is based at the Department of Cognition, Emotion, and Methods in Psychology (unit Psychological Research Methods - Research Synthesis).

Your personal sphere of influence:

We are looking for applicants for a predoc position with proven knowledge of, and a strong interest in, innovative applications and the development of quantitative research methods, focusing on evidence-synthesis methods (meta-analyses and systematic reviews) and metascience (empirical research about research and researchers).

 

The employment duration is 3 years. Initially limited to 1.5 years, the employment relationship is automatically extended to 3 years if the employer does not terminate it within the first 12 months by submitting a non-extension declaration. With appropriate work Progress, an Extension to a total maximum of 4 years is possible.

Your future tasks:

The position includes research work, independent teaching of courses on psychological research methodology and statistics in the Bachelor’s program in psychology, including student supervision and participation in administrative tasks. Pursuing a cumulative (publication-based) PhD project is expected and supported accordingly; therefore also publishing in international, English-language journals with peer review.

As a predoc, you will be actively involved in research, teaching, and administration, which means:

  • You will be involved in research projects and scientific studies in the field of quantitative psychological research methods and research synthesis in particular.
  • We expect you to achieve your dissertation agreement within 9-12 months.

  • You will work on and complete your dissertation.

  • You will join the Vienna Doctoral School in Cognition, Behavior and Neuroscience (VDS CoBeNe; https://vds-cobene.univie.ac.at/) and organize your doctoral studies according to the VDS CoBeNe guidelines.

  • You will independently teach statistics courses in the Bachelor’s degree program in psychology in accordance with the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.

  • You hold courses independently within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
  • You will take on administrative tasks in research, teaching, and administration.

This is part of your personality:

You enjoy and are interested in scientific work, and in particular have excellent knowledge of quantitative psychological research methods – including their statistical bases and statistical software (R, JASP, SPSS). The ability to communicate fluently at least in English (very good written and spoken skills, C1 level) is a must. Proven publication activity, preferably in the research field of the advertised position, as well as experience in university teaching are an advantage. Furthermore:

  • Completed Master´s degree in the field of psychology
  • Didactic skills and interest in teaching

  • Ability to work in a team, social skills, and an independent, cooperative, and proactive working style

  • Problem-solving skills, reliability, resilience, flexibility, and commitment

  • Interest in and willingness to undergo further training, including relevant skills for project applications and acquiring third-party funding
