The advertised position is allocated to the Faculty of Psychology at the University of Vienna which comprises, beside the Dean’s office and the Study Service Center, four Departments.
In particular, we offer a position for a university assistant (prae doc) in the Psychotraumatology Group (Univ.-Prof. Dr. Brigitte Lueger-Schuster) at the Department of Clinical and Health Psychology.
ogether with the research group, you will take part in research in the field of trauma and psychological adjustment to adversities (e.g. COVID-19 pandemic, childhood trauma). The Psychotraumatology Group has extensive experience in investigating the psychological consequences of traumatic exposure in the general population as well as in vulnerable groups, such as children and people with disabilities. In the course of your employment, you will be involved in ongoing projects of the research group.
As part of a longitudinal pan-European study, your work will be about risk and protective factors for mental health shaped by multiple crises.
Together with our collaborators from a children’s psychiatric hospital, you will also investigate the assessment of trauma in children and adolescents.

The position is limited to the period of an employee’s maternity leave from 15.04. - 30.09.2025.
Your future tasks:
As a university assistant prae doc, you will take over tasks like:
- Planning and conducting empirical studies
- Publication of research results in international scientific journals
- Presentation of research results at national and international conferences
- Participation in the acquisition of new research projects.
- Participation in the group’s administration and teaching activities.
- You actively participate in research, teaching & administration, which means:
- You are involved in research projects and scientific studies.
- You conduct research related to trauma and psychological adjustment to adversities, such as childhood trauma.
- You work on your dissertation proposal.
- You engage in teaching (independent and/or in a team) as defined by the collective agreement.You are involved in the organization of meetings, conferences, and symposiums.
- You collaborate with international experts in the field of trauma and traumatic sequelae.
This is part of your personality:
Must-haves:
- Above average Master's degree in psychology
- Excellent knowledge of quantitative data analysis methods
- Experience in international research projects and publishing in peer-reviewed journals
- Strong IT user skills, including MS Office and programs for data analysis (e.g. SPSS, R)
- Very good ability to explain research methodology and present research findings in a structured way
- Started postgraduate training in clinical psychology
- Experience in working with children and adolescents with mental health problems.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Flexibility and willingness to learn
- Excellent command of written and spoken English and German
Nice to have:
- Very good command of languages other than English and German
- Knowledge of academic processes and structures
- Teaching experience in courses for Master’s students
