Your personal sphere of influence:

The Organic Synthesis Group of Prof. Maulide in the Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Vienna is currently seeking a PhD student with research experience in organic chemistry and natural product synthesis for 4 years temporary employment relationship. 

Our Team currently consists of 10 post docs, 13 prae docs, 2 senior scientists and administrative colleagues.

 

The employment duration is 4 years. Initially limited to 1.5 years, the employment relationship is automatically extended to 4 years if the employer does not terminate it within the first 12 months by submitting a non-extension declation. 

Your future tasks:

You actively participate in research, teaching & administration, which means:

  • Studies on the stereoselective preparation of organic compounds. Special emphasis on the development of new synthetic reactions and reaction sequences, with a focus on (regio)selective metalation reactions and their optimization, the synthesis of fluorescent molecules, transition-metal-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions (including the synthesis of suitable ligands and complexes), as well as the diastereoselective synthesis of polyfunctionalized organic molecules through targeted manipulation of cationic intermediates.    
  • We expect you to finalize your dissertation agreement within 12-18 months.
  • You work on your dissertation and its completion.
  • You teach within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
  • You take on administrative tasks in research, teaching and administration.

This is part of your personality:

  • Completed Master's degree or Diploma, in the field of Chemistry with profound knowledge and practical experience in the field of Organic Synthesis.
  • Ability to work independently in the field of organic synthesis, including working under inert atmosphere.
  • Experience with:
    • the chemistry of organometallic compounds (alkyllithium reagents and Barbier reaction), as well as regioselective metalation reactions.
    • flow NMR and the synthesis of fluorescent molecules.
    • the synthesis of ligands and transition metal complexes for cross coupling reactions.
    • stereoselective synthesis through carbocation-driven cyclization reactions.
  • Basic experience in academic writing and with research methods.
  • Excellent command of wirtten and spoken English.
  • IT user sikills: e.g. Microsoft Office, ChemOffice
  • You should be a team player with high social skills
