The Faculty of History and Cultural Studies at the University of Vienna has a vacancy for a University Assistant (praedoc) at the Department of History starting in March. The position is advertised for 3 years, whereby the employment relationship is initially limited to 1.5 years. An extension up to 4 years is possible.
Your personal sphere of influence:
Your field of activity includes history didactics, historical-political didactics and civic education, related courses, the organization of lectures, workshops and conferences as well as collaboration on academic projects. They work cooperatively in a larger team of academics and write their own dissertation.
Your future tasks:
You actively participate in research, teaching & administration, which means:
- Participation in research projects / research studies in the field of history didactics, historical-political didactics or civic education
- Participation in publications / academic articles / digital publications / presentations
- We expect to finalize a doctoral thesis agreement within 12-18 months.
- Participation in teaching and independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement
- Supervision of students
- You take on administrative tasks in research, teaching, administration and organisation of meetings, conferences, symposiums
- You are involved in research projects and scientific studies in the area of history didactics or civic education.
- You work on your dissertation and its completion.
This is part of your personality:
- Professional competence: completed teaching degree in history for secondary schools; teaching experience in schools
- Methodological competence: profound knowledge in the field of history didactics and civic education and familiarity with empirical methods of the field (e.g. through a very good diploma or master thesis), specialist knowledge in history, dissertation concept in the field of didactics of history and/or civic education
- Didactic competence: skills and competences in lesson design in the subjects of history and civic education, ability to communicate research results to the public
- Experience in the organisation of meetings and conferences
- High ability to express yourself both orally and in writing
- Excellent command of written and spoken English
- IT user skills
- Ability to work in a team
