With 27 subjects, a specialization, and over 12,000 students in teacher education programs, the University of Vienna is the largest institution for teacher training in Austria. At the Centre for Teacher Education (ZLB), we work to consolidate and further develop the diverse initiatives aimed at improving the quality of teacher education. Together with the faculties and centers involved in teacher education, as well as the teacher training colleges within the North-East Network, future teachers are prepared for the evolving needs of modern schools and empowered to shape schools as places of learning and living based on scientific expertise.

We are seeking a committed University Assistant (praedoc) for the Department of Didactics of Civic Education (headed by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Dirk Lange). This is a substitute position, limited to approximately mid-December 2025.

As a University Assistant (praedoc), you will join Prof. Lange's research team, which currently consists of one postdoc, six praedocs, one student assistant, and one administrative colleague. Our research focuses on democracy education, civic awareness studies, global citizenship education, digital citizenship education, inclusive civic education, and human rights education.

Your future tasks:

You actively participate in research, teaching, and administration, which includes:

  • Contributing to research projects and scientific studies.
  • Participating in publications and presentations.
  • Working on your doctoral dissertation.
  • Undertaking administrative tasks in research and teaching.
  • Assisting with project proposals and the acquisition of third-party funding.
  • Supporting the organization of meetings, conferences, and symposiums.
  • Independently conducting courses in accordance with the collective agreement provisions.

This is part of your personality:

  • Completed Master’s degree in education or social sciences, teacher education program, or a comparable qualification
  • Expertise related to civic education
  • Knowledge of qualitative and/or quantitative research methods
  • Doctoral project in the didactics of civic education
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent proficiency in German and English, both written and spoken
  • Proficiency in standard office software applications
  • Team player with strong social and communication skills
