The Vienna Doctoral School of Pharmaceutical, Nutritional and Sport Sciences (VDS-PhaNuSpo) provides a cutting-edge scientific training for doctoral candidates all research areas of the three doctoral programmes. It aims to attract excellent students from around the world and guide them towards research at the forefront of pharmaceutical, nutritional and sport sciences in a vibrant and dynamic community in the heart of Europe.

The Doctoral School offers two 6-month Completion Contracts for doctoral candidates who are members of the VDS-PhaNuSpo and who have previously held a position as University Assistant (predoctoral) or a PhD position at the University of Vienna. This Completion Contract aims to support highly qualified fellows in the final phase of their doctoral studies. The recipient will be employed as University Assistant (predoctoral) and will work at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Your future tasks:

You actively participate in research, teaching & administration, which means:

  • Your main task is to complete and to submit your dissertation by the end of the funding period at the latest..
  • You meet and consult with your supervisor(s) / TAC on a regular basis in order to priorities your tasks and get the necessary support to complete your dissertation successfully in time.
  • You participate in your department's and the Doctoral School activities and workshops.
  • You participate in conferences and publish research results in peer-reviewed journals.
  • You actively seek support (workshops, training, coaching etc.) if necessary.

General expectations:

  • Excellent academic and doctoral study record (e.g. FÖP and doctoral thesis agreement within one year, annual submission of progress reports; conference presentations, publication record etc.).
  • High level of motivation and commitment to succesfully complete your doctoral studies within the anticipated time frame.
  • Collaborative, team-minded and pro-active attitude.
  • High level of written and oral communication skills.

Fair salary: The basic salary of EUR 3,578,80 (on a full-time basis) increases if we can credit professional experience. The contract will be for six months and shall start as soon as possible.

  • With your scientific curriculum vitae in tabular form, including a list of publications (incl. DOI or other persistent identifier) and conference presentations. Please explain any gaps in your CV. (maximum three pages).
  • With your status report consisting of i) an abstract (1,000-2,000 characters), ii) a brief summary of the hypothesis, methods, major achievements, scientific results and preliminary conclusions, ii) a tabular overview of the peer-reviewed publications that are part of the cumulative thesis, including publication status (for monographs the chapters and completion status), and iv) a detailed work plan with a convincing explanation that the thesis can be completed within the timeframe. (Use this template, maximum 4 pages including the bibliography, 11 pt font, single-spaced).
  • With the copies of approved doctoral thesis agreement and annual progress reports, and ECTS records (Sammelzeugnis) of your doctoral  studies.
  • With a statement from your supervisor(s) providing feedback on the status of your dissertation, a candid assessment of the time required to complete your dissertation, and a commitment to support you during the finalisation phase.
