Your future position is at the Department of Accounting, Innovation and Strategy in the subject area Technology and Innovation Management headed by Stefan Wagner. The institute is part of the Faculty of Business, Economics and Statistics. The advertised post doc-position is limited to 3 years, presenting an excellent starting point for a career in academia.
The working group Technology and Innovation Management is committed to excellence in teaching and research. Its research covers, amongst others, the emergence, development, and commercialization of new ideas and inventions. We try to better understand how various incentive mechanisms, different forms of organizing as well as characteristics of individuals and organizations and their environment influence their innovation activities. Results have been published in leading journals including Academy of Management Journal, Management Science, Review of Economics and Statistics and Strategic Management Journal.
The advertised position will allow successful candidates to continue working on their own research topics which are expected to match the working group’s focus but also to collaborate on existing projects with other working group members. Priority is given to applicants who are either interested in innovation in the chemical and/or pharmaceutical industry, or in the effect of new digital technologies on R&D/ innovation dynamics more broadly.
In terms of methodology, our work is predominantly quantitative, using methods of applied econometrics and increasingly also machine learning. Large data sets typically form the basis of our analyses. Thus familiarity and a certain expertise on these is also expected of future team members. Interest in methods used in empirical IO are a plus.
You will join a growing team of colleagues who are internationally well-connected and regularly publish in top journals.
Your future tasks:
Active participation in research, teaching & administration, which means:
- You build up an independent research profile in the field of technology and innovation management.
- You involve yourself in the working group's research projects and scientific studies.
- You publish internationally and give lectures.
- You apply for projects and raise third-party funds.
- You prepare and complete a publication-ready habilitation.
- You hold courses independently within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
- You supervise the subject area's students.
- You participate in evaluation measures and in quality assurance.
- You take on administrative tasks in research, teaching and administration.
This is part of your personality:
• Completed doctoral/PhD studies within business, economics or statistics
• Outstanding dissertation
• Research competence and initiative proven through international publications in peer-relevant media
• Experience in research management and in leading project staff
• Didactic skills / experience in e-learning
• Experience/familiarity with R or Python and SQL and STATA
• Excellent knowledge of English (C1)
• Team player and high social/communicative skills
