Your future position is at the Faculty Center for Transdisciplinary Historical and Cultural Studies, under the chair of History of Medicine and the Biomedical Sciences which is headed by Prof. Birgit Nemec

The Chair of History of Medicine and Biosciences at the Faculty Center for Transdisciplinary Historical-Cultural Studies aims to test and further develop approaches and methods in the field of modern history of knowledge and political epistemologies of medicine and the life sciences and to connect the department's institutes in research and teaching. The current thematic focus of the chair includes sex/gender diversity; medical products; risks and reproductive health; patient activism; dis/ability and global health as well as oral history methods and methods of research collaboration.

 

This position is limited to 31.03.2031. 

Your future tasks:

As part of the team of the chair, you will be entrusted with research activities in the fields of the history of medicine and life sciences as well as with teaching and administrative tasks. This implies:

  • Development of an independent teaching and research profile
  • Preparation and completion of a habilitation or second project (ready for publication)
  • Together with other members of the chair: Participation in the organization of meetings, conferences, symposia
  • Participation in project development and third-party funding applications
  • Independent teaching of courses, examinations and student support
  • Participation in evaluation activities and quality assurance
  • Participation in the Center's administration

This is part of your profile: 

  • Completed doctoral degree in history or cultural studies/PhD
  • Pleasure in independent work as proofed by a record of publications and/or activities in the history of medicine and the biomedical sciences (in a broad sense)
  • Very good English language skills
  • Research interests in the areas of the chair's focus
  • Ability to work in a team and to engage actively in the social life of the department
  • Enjoy reading and interdisciplinary debate
  • Commitment to actively contribute to the development of the chair by third-party funding acquisition


Advantages:

  • Understanding of and interest in theoretical and methodological debates in the history of science and medicine, i.e. global or transregional perspectives; intersectional, postcolonial, disability, queer or gender issues and methods, oral history methods
