Your personal sphere of play:
You will be assigned to the Austrian Educational Competence Center Chemistry (AECC Chemistry) at the Center for Teacher Education (ZLB) at the University of Vienna. The AECC Chemistry operates at the thriving intersection of pre- and in-service teacher education, schools, universities, as well as university colleges of teacher education in Austria. We conceptualise and implement innovative chemistry-specific educational research and professional development. Incorporating recent research findings into our teaching is of paramount importance for us. Subsequently, our expertise is requested for the development and revision of state-of-the-art curricula for schools and universities on a regular basis.
Our team’s research projects currently revolve around inquiry-based teaching and learning, green and sustainable chemistry, and the application of natural language processing to combine qualitative and quantitative perspectives on research data. We are looking forward to welcoming a committed post-doctoral researcher (4-year fixed-term contract) with a PhD earned in the field of chemistry education. We invite you to extend our current research areas and support the development of your individual profile.
Your future tasks:
You will participate in research, teaching and administration, i.e:
- You conduct research and professional development projects in the field of chemistry education using qualitative and quantitative methods
- You reflect on educational research and development from a theoretical, methodological, and classroom-level perspective
- You transform national and international educational research findings and apply them in chemistry teacher education
- You hold courses independently within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
- You provide supervision and advice for students in Bachelor-level and Master-level programmes
- You provide advice and support for doctoral students
- You publish in international journals and teacher journals
- You apply for projects and acquire third-party funding
- You plan and organise professional development courses
- You collaborate with the AECCs Biology and Physics
- You take on administrative tasks in research, teaching and administration.
This is part of your personality:
- Degree in chemistry education
- Completed doctoral program in chemistry education
- Experience in the field of chemistry education research
- Knowledge and skills especially in quantitative, but also qualitative educational research and statistical methods
- Excellent proficiency in written and spoken German
- High proficiency in written and spoken English
- Teaching experience in pre-service chemistry teacher education
- In-school teaching experience above and beyond pre-service teacher education programmes
- Team player with strong social/communication skills
- Organisational talent
- Demonstrated knowledge of academic structures and processes
