This 5-year position is announced by Prof. Dr. Thomas Bugnyar and Prof. Dr. Sonia Kleindorfer and shall intensify the cooperation between the Department of Behavioral and Cognitive Biology and the Konrad Lorenz Research Center for Behavior and Cognition in Grünau im Almtal. We are looking for a researcher with advanced skill in animal personality in wild animals with experience in host-parasite biology. The candidate would be encouraged to design a research program on aspects of avian personality including consideration of host and parasite interactions. The successful candidate will be primarily based at the Konrad Lorenz Research Center, Grünau im Almtal. Preference will be given to applicants with field work experience in different countries or settings, animal personality and host-parasite behavioral research.

Your future tasks:

The successful candidate is expected to design, procure and direct research projects and publish results in peer-reviewed journals. Furthermore, the candidate is expected to collaborate and support  already ongoing projects in our teams and participate in student supervision, teaching and research administration in accordance with the provision of the collective agreement. 

This is part of your personality: 

  • PhD in the field of Biology, Zoology or related disciplines 
  • Experience in conducting research projects on animal personality and/or host-parasite biology
  • Experience in nest monitoring and archiving data 
  • Willingness to assume the responsibility of team leadership
  • Documented publication activity in peer-reviewed journals 
  • Excellent command of written and verbal English language
     

In addition, we expect the successful candidate to have:

  • Experience in field work
  • Organizational and communication skills
  • Experience in acquiring third-party funding
  • Experience in university teaching, and in the co-supervision of students
  • Hands-on mentality
