The Department of Political Science, a subunit of the Faculty of Social Sciences, addresses all major fields of political science. It is dedicated to innovative and problem-oriented research and provides students with a wide range of specialisations. Members of the Department study the transformation of governance, statehood and democracy across different policy areas, geographical regions and political areas.

Your future position is at the Department of Political Science in the research area of Political Theory.


At the Department of Political Science, we aim to engage with the full spectrum of political theory in research and in our teaching. Our focus is on (radical) democratic theories, as well as on hegemony theory, poststructuralism, critical theories, and intellectual history.


Contract period: 3 years, beginning from 1 October 2024

Your future tasks:

 

Active participation in research, teaching and administration in the research area of Political Theory (led by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Oliver Marchart). What is required:

 

  • You participate in the coordination and execution of scientific events
  • You publish internationally, give lectures and participate in international academic conferences
  • You contribute to project applications and third-party funding acquisition
  • You prepare and complete a publication-ready habilitation
  • You hold courses independently within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement
  • You prepare and execute exams
  • You supervise student theses, especially those specializing in Political Theory
  • You participate in evaluation measures and in quality assurance
  • You assist in administrative tasks for the department

This is part of your personal qualifications:

 

  • Completed doctoral/PhD studies in Political Science, or a closely related field, with a focus on Political Theory
  • Profound competences in the political history of ideas and contemporary political theory, especially critical and radical-democratic approaches
  • Methodical competence
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent knowledge of German and English
  • IT skills
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Didactic skills and experience in e-learning
  • Experience in research management
  • Experience in acquisition of third party funding
  • Knowledge about university workflows and structures

Fair salary:  The gross basic salary for the advertised position is currently (2024) €4.752,30 per month (full-time basis) and will be paid 14 times per year for the contract period of 3 years. The basic salary may increase if we can credit professional experience.
