At the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Vienna seeks to appoint a
Tenure-Track Professor in the field of Health and Sustainability
The position
The tenure-track position is dedicated to sociological research and teaching on the foundations and current developments at the interface of health and sustainability. We seek excellent candidates with a focus on the intersections between socio-ecological sustainability (including social inequality, multiple crises, climate change) and social, physical, and mental health. Expertise in quantitative methods and/or mixed methods is desirable.
Health and sustainability are focus areas both at the University and the Faculty of Social Sciences. An interdisciplinary research network “Health in Society” has been recently established that offers opportunities for cross-faculty collaboration and enhanced visibility. These focus areas are in the tradition of the Department of Sociology at the University of Vienna, which is renowned for its extensive research and teaching activities that focus on significant and timely social issues. The department integrates empirical analysis with sociological theory to address contemporary social challenges. Research areas include work, organisation, gender relations, family, generations, life course, migration, cities, social inequality, knowledge, culture, and visual worlds. The newly appointed tenure-track position will fill a thematic gap and additionally connect to other areas of research at the department and throughout the University, including urban sociology, ageing, work, family, and well-being but also geography and climate research.
