If you enjoy searching for optimal technical solutions, tinkering, repairing and organizing, preferably in an international research environment, then welcome to the team! We employ individuals who are driven to make a meaningful impact on society through their work. We create unique optics and microscopes and work with the necessary freedom, professionalism and high standards.
Your personal sphere of influence:
Our Team is part of the Quantum Optics, Quantum Nanophysics and Quantum Information group of the Faculty of Physics.
We are member of the Vienna Center for Quantum Science and Technology (VCQ), one of the largest quantum hubs in Europe, and of the Austrian Cluster of Excellence (quantA), advancing basic research in quantum sciences, aiming to expand the frontiers of knowledge and thus being the engine for future innovations.
As a technician in the 'Quantum Optics and Microscopy' group, you will be responsible for the maintenance of equipment, including measuring computers and the associated hardware and software. You will support researchers in the creation of new measurement setups and their control.
The position is limited until 31.12.2025.
Your future tasks:
- You look after measuring equipment and its control (often Python-based).
- You take on the maintenance and servicing of devices.
- You train new employees in the use of devices and device test control.
- You are an important link between different experiments and ensure that device-related know-how is shared within the group.
- You support the creation of new setups, especially in the field of electronics (simple circuits, synchronization of experiments, Arduino, Raspberry Pi...).
- You obtain cost estimates for new purchases and repairs and negotiate with the companies.
This is part of your personality:
- You have a technical education (e.g. HTL Matura, preferably electronics, mechatronics, robotics, computer science) or other qualifications corresponding to the job profile.
- You have a good knowledge of IT (Python, device control).
- You are familiar with data interfaces, both with serial and USB interfaces.
- You have an understanding of electronics and can design and implement solutions independently.
- You are fluent in English (min. B2) and German (min. B2).
- You like to work independently, proactively and in a structured manner, are service-oriented and enjoy finding solutions.
- You are a team player and have good social and communication skills.
If you are always willing to learn new things and perhaps even have an interest in light or electron optics, then you've come to the right place!
What we offer:
- Inspiring tasks: We develop new microscopes that allow us to see things that no one has seen before.
- Good working atmosphere: You are part of a committed international team in a pleasant working environment.
- Internal training: We offer you ongoing opportunities to deepen your skills. Choose from an extensive range of free courses.
- Fair conditions: The employment is limited until 31.12.2025. The basic salary of EUR 3.071,30 (gross, full-time basis) will be increased if we are able to take professional experience into account.
