The Division of Microbial Ecology (DOME) is looking for a highly motivated Senior Scientist. Welcome to our team!

Your personal sphere of influence:

Your role will be support the analyses of structure-function relationships of microbiomes from environmental and clinical samples in collaboration with researchers from DOME using our state-of-the-art microbiome imaging instrumentation, which includes a NanoSIMS 50L, a Stimulated Raman Scattering (SRS) microscope, a point-scan and wide-field mid-infrared photothermal chemical imaging (MIP) device, and a super-resolution confocal microscope. 

Your future tasks:

Your responsibilities include advising on study design and sample preparation, imaging analysis of samples, collaborative data analysis and contributing to grant and manuscript writing. Additionally, you will disseminate results at national and international conferences, and assist in supervising students.

This is part of your profile: 

Successful candidates should hold a doctoral degree in microbiology and have at least 4 years postdoc research experience (international experience is preferred) in the field of microbial nitrogen cycling. Ideally, the candidate has thorough knowledge of the process of nitrification including in-depth understanding of the physiology of nitrifying microorganisms. The job requires experience with planning and conducting studies including microbial genomics and comparative genomics combined with physiological assays to assess the functional potential of key N-cycling microorganisms. In addition, the candidate should be experienced in applying various molecular techniques such as PCR- and NGS-based methods and fluorescence in situ hybridization as well as cultivation of slow growing microorganisms. 

  • Demonstrated aptitude for scientific writing and a track record of high-quality publications in international peer-reviewed journals is expected.
  • Strong communication skills in English (written and spoken) are mandatory and communication skills in German are preferred.
  • The ability to work in a team is essential.
  • In addition, we expect the successful candidate to have experience in supervising students at the Bachelor, Master or PhD level.

Permanent contract and fair salary: The basic salary of EUR 4.932,90 (14 times a year for senior scientists postdoctoral).
