The Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Vienna is the largest Austrian institution of mathematical research and tertiary education in the mathematical sciences. It consists of active research groups in a wide range of fields, starting from logical foundations, bridging all classical core subjects, and up to concrete applications in industry. As part of the Faculty, the Institute of Mathematics represents the entire discipline of mathematics in research and teaching, without making an arbitrary distinction between pure and applied fields.

Your professional field of activity:

 

As a Senior Scientist you will work at the forefront of research on the geometric calculus of variations in the group of Univ.-Prof. Michael Eichmair, PhD, which you will support and complement with your expertise. To bolster your own agenda, you will be committed to acquiring third party funding for postdoctoral positions and, if desired, doctoral positions. You will actively participate in the quality assurance of teaching materials created by the group. Moreover, you will participate in a regular jour fix and interact with the other members of the group in a respectful and appreciative manner.

 

The position is initially limited to one year. It may be converted into unlimited employment upon mutual agreement.

 

The contract start date is flexible, beginning as early as September 1, 2025.

Your future tasks:

 

Active participation in research, teaching & administration, which means:

 

  •     Collaboration in the field of geometric analysis:

        o Independent and collaborative research on the geometric calculus of variations in the group of Univ.-Prof. Michael Eichmair, PhD.

 

  •     Third-party funding:

        o Acquiring third-party funding for postdocs to bolster your independent research agenda.

 

  •     Collaboration in teaching:

         o Teaching according to § 49 paragraph 7 of the collective agreement.       

         o Active participation in the quality assurance of teaching materials created by the group.   

   

Required Qualifications/Position Requirement:

 

  • a completed doctorate in mathematics in the field of geometric analysis and a certificate of completion provided in due time before the start of the contract
  • track record of excellence in research proven by publications in top journals of the field
  • track record of excellence in teaching proven by, e.g., teaching evaluations
  • excellent command of English

B1 lit b basic level (postdoc): EUR 4,932.90 on a full-time basis (before taxes, 14 times per year). The actual salary is finally determined depending on professional experience and qualification. The gross salary covers all benefits of the employee in quantitative and qualitative terms (= all-in payment).
