Together with a dedicated team of teachers, you make a significant contribution to the success of the students. Your personal sphere of influence:

The Department of Evolutionary Anthropology at the Faculty of Life Sciences conducts research and teaching on all aspects of the evolution of humans and their closest relatives. To support the best possible research-led teaching, students are familiarized with digital, quantitative and qualitative research methods at an early stage. Many of these methods are also relevant for majors of other Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes in Biology.
The courses relevant to this position include topics such as statistics and their application in biological research, as well as scientific work in biology for Bachelor's students of Biology with a focus on Evolutionary Anthropology/Human Biology, students of other biological fields and, above all, for students of teacher education in biology and environmental education.
In addition, digital and direct methods of human somatometry, scientific photography, creation and handling of field research based paper & pencil and digital data collection forms, surface scanning, geometric morphometrics, digital recording and analysis of behavioral observations, as well as the application of experimental, field-based and computer-assisted methods will be taught. In the area of statistics, the focus is on applications of SPSS and R.

Your future tasks:

As a Senior Lecturer, you will be involved in teaching, for example in exercises and practical courses in the Bachelor's degree programs in Biology with a focus on Evolutionary Anthropology/Human Biology, Teacher education Biology, as well as in the Master's degree programs in Biology with a focus on Evolutionary Anthropology. The employment level of 20 hours/week includes an average teaching obligation of 12 semester hours per week of instructive teaching. We are looking for people who see university teaching as an interesting and challenging professional field.

The core tasks include:

  • preparation, teaching and follow-up of relevant courses (including examination activities)
  • preparation of teaching materials (including the use of eLearning)
  • ongoing reception of the current state of science
  • didactic training during the lecture-free period
  • administrative activities, especially in the administration and organization of teaching

What we expect:

  • Master's or diploma degree in Evolutionary Human Biology/Anthropology or Zoology
  • several years of teaching experience at a post-secondary educational institution with special respect to teaching teacher´s education students
  • experience in teaching statistics to biology students
  • experience in fieldwork and in laboratory methods (e.g. surface scanning)
  • statistics skills (SPSS, R)
  • IT skills (MS Office)
  • excellent German and advanced English language skills
  • didactic competences (incl. digital components)
