Do you enjoy working with young people, are you curious, and do you want to pass on your knowledge?  As a Senior Lecturer, you play a crucial role in educating students. In addition to providing a solid academic education, we also place a special emphasis on the personal development of students. We support students in developing curiosity and critical thinking, thereby creating a solid foundation for the professional challenges of the next generation.

Your workplace:

As a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Communication, you will primarily teach in the Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes in Journalism and Communication Studies, focusing on journalism research and qualitative methods for an average of 14 semester hours per week. You are expected to stay up-to-date with research developments in the field and participate in pedagogical training. During semester breaks, you are expected to engage in research activities with opportunities to join existing research groups at the department, such as the Journalism Studies Center.

Your future tasks:

You actively participate in scientific teaching, research and administration, which means:

  • Independently lead courses at Bachelor's and Master's level within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement. That means an average of 14 semester hours per week for full-time employment.
  • Contribute actively to developing and enhancing course content and examination formats.
  • Stay current with developments in the field, participate in didactical training  and conduct research during semester breaks.
  • In addition, the handling of administrative duties, particularly in teaching administration, is part of the job profile.

We are looking for people who see university teaching as an interesting and challenging professional field and have the following profile:

  • PhD in Communication Science or related field
  • Several years of independent, relevant and successful teaching experience in higher education, with demonstrated excellence
  • Proven commitment to knowledge transfer and teaching
  • An established research and publication profile in journalism studies
  • Excellent command of German (at C1 level)
  • Very good command of English
  • You should be a team player with high social skills
