The Department of Network Biology at the University of Vienna is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher in the field of Network Medicine with a focus on Rare Disease Research. The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary and international team exploring the molecular and clinical landscape of rare diseases through systems-level approaches and high-dimensional biomedical data integration.
About the Max Perutz Labs
The successful applicant will work in a stimulating scientific environment: Department for Structural and Computational Biology at the Max Perutz Labs, a research institute established by the University of Vienna and the Medical University of Vienna. Dedicated to a mechanistic understanding of fundamental biomedical processes, scientists at the Max Perutz Labs aim to link breakthroughs in basic research to advances in human health. The Max Perutz Labs are located at the Vienna BioCenter, one of Europe’s hotspots for Life Sciences, and host 44 research groups, involving around 400 scientists and staff from more than 40 nations.
Your future tasks:
The successful applicant will:
- Analyze and integrate clinical and multi-omic datasets from rare disease cohorts.
- Develop and apply network medicine tools, particularly multiplex network-based models, to address specific challenges in diagnosis and treatment research for rare diseases.
- Collaborate closely with clinical partners to interpret molecular findings in the context of phenotype variability and disease severity.
- Participate in international research consortia and contribute to publication.
- Support and supervise junior researchers and contribute to grant applications
- You publish internationally and give lectures.
- You hold courses independently within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
- You supervise your students
- You participate in evaluation measures and in quality assurance.
- You take on administrative tasks in research, teaching and administration.
This is part of your personality:
• Completed doctoral/PhD studies in subject Bioinformatics, Systems Biology, or related fields
• Proven track record in rare disease research, especially involving multi-omic data integration
• Strong experience with network-based models, especially multiplex or multilayer networks, applied to biological data
• Familiarity with HPC environments is highly desirable
• Programming skills in R, Python or equivalent
• Excellent communication skills in English
• High motivation for collaborative and interdisciplinary work
