The Mass Spectrometry infrastructure at the University of Vienna Biology Building (UBB) is equipped with diverse online-separation techniques and Mass Spectrometry instruments, enabling a wide range of applications, including proteomics and metabolomics. The Research Support Facility at UBB offers online separation techniques coupled with high-resolution mass spectrometry instruments, with a primary focus on proteomics and protein mass spectrometry. This enables both qualitative and quantitative analysis of diverse and complex analytes. As a Core Facility of the Faculty of Life Sciences, the Research Support Facility offers easy access to a wide range of collaborative projects.
Your future tasks:
Your responsibilities include the following activities, which primarily involve professional, organizational or administrative support tasks in accordance with general guidelines and instructions. These tasks are conducted in coordination with the scientific staff, as well as others within the Mass Spectrometry Facility and external collaborators.
- Maintaining a well-organized and clean lab, ensuring laboratory safety, and responding to emergencies.
- Performing routine maintenance on instrument setups within Mass Spectrometry unit of Research Support Facility
- Managing inventory for chemicals, reagents, supplies, consumables, equipment and so on.
- Facilitating effective communication within the team and with external collaborators, including those at the Mass Spectrometry unit.
- Managing sample submission forms, and handling measurement bills.
- Ordering and maintaining the lab/office material, chemicals, and associated instrument supplies.
- Transparent and detailed documentation and management of lab/office expenditures.
- Maintaining accurate records, reports, documentation, and data management related to Mass Spectrometry unit/Research Support Facility.
- Demonstrating flexibility by taking on additional/or new responsibilities to support the Mass Spectrometry unit/Research Support Facility.
- Assisting with data analysis for collaborators and optimizing sample preparation protocols.
- Coordinating the proper disposal of hazardous and chemical waste in compliance with environmental regulations.
This is part of your personality:
We are seeking a skilled laboratory professional with
- At least a Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification in Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field
- Proficiency in handling chemicals, solvents, and making solutions
- Excellent German language skills (native speaker level)
- Strong English communication skills
- Proficiency in basic calculations, Excel, and office tasks is required
- Attention to details, reliability, and the ability to work independently
- Excellent communication skills, Teamplayer, Flexibility
- Demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a team
- Prior experience in mass spectrometry is advantageous, though not required
- Familiarity with proteomic sample preparation, R scripting, and previous experience as a lab technician or in lab management are all considered a plus
