We are looking for a PhD student / assistant in the field of Modern German Literature within the working group of Prof. Eva Horn.

You will work on your PhD thesis, you will be teaching at the Institut für Germanistik, you will support the work of the group leader and participate in the groups academic activities. 

Our research focus in on German literature from the 18th century to the present. We are specifically interested in the perspectives of Environmental Humanities, the history of knowledge and the poetics of the Anthropocene.

The focus of our research is Modern German Literature with a special interest in the Environmental Humanities / Ecocriticism, the history of knowledge, the poetics of the Anthrpopocene.

Our Team currently consists of 2 post docs, 1 prae docs and administrative colleagues.

What is particularly important to us is an interest in inter-disciplinary perspectives dealing with current ecological questions.

The employment duration is 4 years. Initially limited to 1.5 years, the employment relationship is automatically extended to 4 years if the employer does not terminate it within the first 12 months by submitting a non-extension declaration.

Your future tasks:

You actively participate in research, teaching & administration, which means:

  • You are doing your own research and work towards completing your PhD thesis. 
  • We expect you to finalize your dissertation agreement within 12-18 months.
  • You hold courses independently within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
  • You take on administrative tasks in research, teaching and administration.
  • You will assist the group leader with her research and publications. 
  • You will actively participate in the group's academic activities, such as colloquia, workshops, conferences. 

This is part of your personality:

  • A Master /diploma in Modern German Literature.
  • Written and spoken German an near native level (C2).
  • Experience in academic writing and research.
  • Experimentes in academic teaching and openness to learning new didactic methods. 
  • Experience in working with software such as word, PPT, etc.
  • We would be happy if your reaseach interests include Environmental Humanities / Ecocriticism, the poetics of the Anthropocene, the history of knowledge. Your research field should be Modern German Literature or Comparative Literature with a focus on German texts. 
  • You are willing to assist the group leader in adminstrative and research related task, as well as text editing, bibliographies etc.
  • You speak and write English fluently (C1)
  • You are a teamplayer with great social and communication skills.
  • You are curious and interested in new theories and methods in the humanities.
